Material
West Indian Sea Island Cotton
West Indian Sea Island thrives in Barbados and Jamaica due to their unique climates. These regions offer consistent warmth, high humidity, and regular rainfall, ideal for cultivating Gossypium barbadense. The fertile soils further enhance fiber quality.
Barbados's soils are enriched by coral limestone, volcanic ash from the Lesser Antilles, and Saharan dust—creating clay-rich, calcium-dense soils. Jamaica’s soils, formed from volcanic activity, contain minerals like kaolinite and smectite, boosting fertility.
This rare mix of climate and geology produces cotton with stronger yarns, low hairiness, exceptional softness, and sheen. The staples are very long (37-50mm) and the micronaire is ultra-fine (2.8-3.4).
Washing Instructions
- Machine wash 30–40°C, gentle, low spin.
- Wash with other white textile only.
- Use mild detergent; no bleach/optical brighteners/softeners.
- Wash inside-out.
- Hang/flat dry; no tumble-drying.
- Iron medium-hot (150–180°C) while damp.
- Stains: oxygen bleach only; pre-treat collars/cuffs.
- Dry-cleaning allowed.
